The Penn CHC has initiated discussions with the indigenous group Yachay Wasi about the possible development of a community center and museum within the town of Acopia. This center would serve both the local community as a gathering point and a presentation of their own cultural heritage related to the Inca past and the Quechua present. This would not be filtered through a national identity but would be focused upon the local community. This center might be funded as a small sustainable tourist project as Acopia is located just off the main tourist route to and from Machu Picchu.

PROJECTS

  1. PROJECT: Peru

Primary school students and their teachers from Santo Domingo (in the district of Acopia) present a message to the Penn Cultural Heritage Center.

Shamans visiting Acopia from Q’ero Nation bless the banner that was sent to the Penn CHC. The banner reads, “Dr. Richard Leventhal: The children and young people of Acopia thank you for your support in the creation of our Site Museum.”
